THE 1970s
The 1970s reflected a continuation of the trends that began in the 1960s – long necklaces, medallion pendants, bangle bracelets and oversized earrings were all in fashion. Gold still ruled, and the favored gemstones of the day were darker and more natural in color in shades of burgundy, deep blue and purple. Indian influences become more prevalent, perhaps inspired by the Beatles journeys. By the end of the decade, the influence of the punk scene started to influence jewelers, who introduced motifs such as safety pins, spikes and studs.
